Danville Grads Return to Community to Continue Danville Traditions
Viking Football Unifies the Community
The 2009 and 2010 and now, 2011, varsity football squads brought back the memories of coach Paul C. Shebby with not only their great success, but more impressively with their blue collar work ethic. Coach BJ Luke, class of 1972, returned to Danville to lead this team to success in a few short years. As in our times, these squads were smaller in stature than their opponents, but bigger in heart. Their determination led to 2 consecutive undefeated seasons in the Big 12 and two semi-final competitions at Ned Whitesell field. Danville fans poured their hearts out for these great ambassadors of our community. Over 6,000 attended the playoff games in a standing room only venue. Dennis Hightower is the QB who won the 2011 News Gazette all area player award. Congratulations.
Danville Music Programs Flourish
1981 DHS graduate Jennifer Cole Woodrow has taken what Jan Voorhees started at Northridge and brought it to another whole new level. The Woodrow era Redcoats have the same pursuit of perfection as those in the 70's, but with the excellence of what is expected of today's youth. Year after year she leads the Redcoats to competition championships as leaders in the Midwest. More importantly, she teaches her students pride in accomplishment and the realization that dreams do come true. She inspires her kids to pursue music, drama, and finds undiscovered talents in her students.
